Educational Philosophy
I earned my Doctorate degree in Education with the specialization of Instructional Technology and Distance Education.
I am a lifelong learner and passionate about providing educational opportunities to others. I am a seasoned educational leader with administrative and instructional experience. I have nearly two decades of experience teaching middle school (life, earth, and physical science), and most recently have launched a Robotics Program. I have earned a Professional Educator’s Certificate from the State of Florida Department of Education, and I am certified as a Project Manager Professional.
I expect excellence from myself and from my students. My mission in teaching is providing educational opportunities to students by being a master instructor. For over two decades, I have facilitated learning for students in middle school, high school, and college. I have collaborated with faculty and students face-to-face, virtually, synchronously and asynchronously. I have taught college students at Florida Atlantic University as an Adjunct Instructor working with Teacher Candidates. The course I taught is called Applied Educational Technology (EME 4810). I served as the Program Manager for Broward County, Florida in establishing the tuition reimbursement program for approximately 6,000+ employees. While serving as the Instructional Design Project Manager at Nova Southeastern University on a $2.8 million Title V-B grant with the emphasis on retention and graduation of post baccalaureate students, I supervised a team of instructional designers in collaborating with university professors in teaching and developing engaging courses. As the Faculty Trainer of Instructional Technology at Palm Beach State College (PBSC), I was able to mentor and collaborate with faculty in their course development and integration into Blackboard, the learning management system. I was also able to spearhead the creation of a mentoring system for online instructors. Utilizing my expertise that I honed from serving as a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer, I was able to share the best practices of course design with professors at other higher education institutions.

My educational strategy is facilitating a student’s growth by building upon skills that have been mastered. I carefully scaffold content to facilitate students’ understanding of the curriculum. I understand that not all students “get” a concept at the same time and that they move at a personal pace. Students move at different paces when compared to each other and move a variable individual pace. A student who breezes through and is an expert at understanding one area of course content may experience difficulty with another. I make it a point to engage students to assist and understand them better. This connection is especially important in an online course as a student’s academic achievement is based upon many factors, not the least of which is feeling that she/he is a member of a learning community.
I stay current on trends and issues in the field through reading texts and journals and am affiliated with the leading organizations in online education as well as the Project Management Institute. As an element of my professional development, I attend and participate in conferences and have presented at local, regional, state, and national conferences. My most recent presentation was in January 2018, at the Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC). I collaborated with two colleagues and presented, “Robotics: STEAM Rolling The Path to Student Success!”
I understand my responsibility as a role model and share the importance of integrity, honesty, effort, and planning with my students. I take a personal interest in my students’ progress and am eternally optimistic. My success as an educator is based upon my communication skills; a former Head of School called me “the master of communication” at an end-of-year awards ceremony. I have passion and commitment for teaching, facilitating lifelong learning, and ensuing students have the opportunity to achieve.
